hwippedcream:

Is it weird to have a craving for something you’ve never eaten before?

Like right now I am craving Curry House but I’ve never eaten there.

The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings, but shorter tempers, wider freeways, but narrower viewpoints. We spend more, but have less, we buy more, but enjoy less. We have bigger houses and smaller families, more conveniences, but less time.

We have more degrees, but less sense, more knowledge, but less judgment, more experts, yet more problems, more medicine, but less wellness.

We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom.

We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often.

We’ve learned how to make a living, but not a life. We’ve added years to life, not life to years.

We’ve been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor. We conquered outer space but not inner space.

We’ve done larger things, but not better things.

We’ve cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul. We’ve conquered the atom, but not our prejudice. We write more, but learn less. We plan more, but accomplish less. We’ve learned to rush, but not to wait. We build more computers to hold more information, to produce more copies than ever, but we communicate less and less.

These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion, big men and small character, steep profits and shallow relationships. These are the days of two incomes but more divorce, fancier houses, but broken homes.

These are days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throwaway morality, one night stands, overweight bodies, and pills that do everything from cheer, to quiet, to kill.

It is a time when there is much in the showroom window and nothing in the stockroom. A time when technology can bring this letter to you, and a time when you can choose either to share this insight, or to just hit delete.

Remember, spend some time with your loved ones because they are not going to be around forever.

Remember, say a kind word to someone who looks up to you in awe, because that little person soon will grow up and leave your side. Remember to give a warm hug to the one next to you because that is the only treasure you can give with your heart, and it doesn’t cost a cent.

Remember to say “I love you” to your partner and your loved ones, but most of all, mean it. A kiss and an embrace will mend hurt when it comes from deep inside of you.

Remember to hold hands and cherish the moment for someday that person will not be there again.

Give time to love, give time to speak! And give time to share the precious thoughts in your mind.

And always remember,

“Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.”

sad but true…

Not characterized by my own perfection and righteousness, but clothed by His redeeming love. I have a duty to keep up my image, not so I look good, but so the One who sent me is glorified. This, I will carry out gladly. I thank Him for giving me His perfection in all my imperfection; freedom through all my binding chains; beauty in all my unsightly sinfulness; purpose in all the chaos and confusion of the world.

For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be the glory forever! Amen.

When you’re angry or frustrated at someone, stay patient with them. If you can’t, then just take a step outside for a while until you calm down (as politely as you can.. don’t go stomping off, slamming doors, etc. etc.). A good thing to do in these situations is to isolate yourself in His creation; let it all soothe you. Currently, I am out for one of these “steps outside.” I need to be away from home for a little while, just to reflect on the situation, and to be with God. Will be returning home tomorrow night, feeling refreshed, relaxed, and calm. The best type of argument is one that doesn’t happen.

People tell me all the time that it’s hard to believe in some mysterious “God”/creature/being/etc./etc. who supposedly rules over the universe when they can’t see/hear/smell/feel said deity. I am amazed by how well Satan has blocked their senses.

1) Seeing God: I see God everywhere. I look outside my window, and I see trees, birds, squirrels, the sky, the sun and moon; His creation is FILLED with the awesome wonders of His existence. How can all of this possibly just “work” like it does? Science attempts to explain it, but we’re far from understanding how God made everything so perfect. So perfect that even after sin/death/etc. entered the world, tons of things still work. I see God.

2) Hearing God: Quiet down your mind. Stop thinking. Stop worrying about what to wear, what to eat, what you’ll do tomorrow, and how you’ll hold off chores and homework for as long as possible. Just be quiet, in heart and mind. You’ll hear Him. It may not be through language, which we usually expect, but you’ll definitely hear Him. In a more practical way, each time one of us opens our mouths, each time our voice is let out, I hear Him. Each and every single one of our different voices shows how carefully and thoughtfully God made each of us unique. I hear God.

3) Smelling God: Refer to #1. Creation in itself is filled with the wonderful aroma of God’s existence. All the wonders of this world and beyond, made so beautifully and powerfully, all through just a word (okay, fine, maybe with more than just one word..). I smell God.

4) Feeling God: Every time (as in, EVERY TIME) I see or hear of someone doing something that normally wouldn’t be done in His name, I feel Him working something inside me. Every time I am in need, I feel Him comforting me. Every time I sing praises to Him and do things according to His will, I feel the joy in His heart. I feel God.

All creation definitely does shout His praise, be it through sight, sound, smell, touch, or taste.

Sometimes, trying your best to “stay strong” isn’t good enough. Sometimes, you need to break down and come to God, humbled, and on your knees, confessing:

“I am vulnerable and weak; I have no power over these circumstances that cause me so much pain. You are able; You are strong; best of all, You are loving. I place my life in Your able hands. Let Your will, not mine, be done in my life.”

I really feel we need Your love and peace in our family; especially right now. I trust that you know what’s best for us, and that You’ll make it happen (‡Romans 8:28). Thanks in advance. Love, Josh.

‡ And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
